Fed: 7,000 Iraqis in Aust vote in homeland election so far

So far .. more than seven thousand Iraqis living in Australia have cast their ballots
in the war-torn nation's general election.

About 100 thousand Iraqis are living in Australia .. and the federal government expects
11 thousand eligible voters to take part in the election.

They're voting in the election for the 275-member national assembly .. at polling booths
that have already been open two days and will remain open until 9 pm (AEDT) tonight.







Five Australian capitals are hosting out-of-country polling booths .. Sydney .. Melbourne
.. Adelaide .. Perth .. and Brisbane.

Another's been set up in the Victorian regional centre of Shepparton .. which has a
big Iraqi population.
