NSW: Police launch festive season road blitz
SYDNEY, Dec 17 AAP - This years Christmas-New Year road safety blitz in New South Wales
will target drink driving, speeding, fatigue and motorists not wearing seatbelts.
Operation Safe Arrival, launched here today, starts tomorrow and will run until midnight on
January 1.
A separate campaign, Operation Coast Roads, will swing into action today, focusing on the
Pacific Highway and other main roads in the states north.
Traffic Services Commander Superintendent Ron Sorrenson described the Christmas and New
Year period as potentially the most dangerous on NSW roads.
He said last year 20 people died, nearly 500 were injured and 90,000 traffic breaches were
detected by police over the festive season.
